The Garden City is all set for the return of Singapore Art Week (SAW). From the island’s rural areas to its bustling metropolis, Singapore is home to more than 130 visual arts events as part of Art Takes Over Singapore. The SAW has been going strong for 12 years, making it the longest-lasting art week in the area.
Galleries such as Gagosian, White Cube, Thaddaeus Ropac, Lehmann Maupin, neugerriemschneider, Xavier Hufkens, Galerie Karsten Greve, Galerie Gisela Capitain, Goodman Gallery, Kukje Gallery, P.P.O.W., ShanghART, Ota Fine Arts, Yavuz Gallery, Sullivan+Strumpf, TKG+, Richard Koh Fine Art, and many more will be returning to ART SG in 2024.
The Fair is divided into three main sectors: GALLERIES sector for diverse, multi-artist exhibitions, FOCUS for features galleries presenting solo or duo artist programs, or curated thematic presentations and FUTURES, dedicated to supporting younger galleries under the age of 10 years. Besides, visitors will also encounter dynamic, large-scale, site-specific installations as part of PLATFORM sector, experience a curated FILM program hosted in collaboration with ArtScience Museum and participate in a TALKS program featuring art world thought leaders.
“We are delighted to welcome the international art world back to Singapore once again with the second edition of ART SG. Collectors and visitors to the fair will be able to observe exceptional art presentations from Singapore and Southeast Asia, including established names and exciting new talents, alongside the best of global contemporary art from galleries across the world, through the fair’s thoughtfully curated sectors and programs. Across the full week of ART SG and throughout the city, there will also be a rich line-up of exhibitions from Singapore’s visual art institutions, private foundations and collections, gallery openings, and more, bringing together a week-long celebration of visual arts.” said Shuyin Yang, Fair Director, ART SG.
An exhibition of Singaporean visual art is in the works, thanks to the National Arts Council (NAC) and the Singapore Tourism Board (STB). Across the island, viewers may find a wide variety of art events, from prestigious museum exhibits and international art fairs to openings of private collections and street art, brand activations, and community art projects. By hosting Open Call Projects and showcasing works from Singapore’s cultural institutions, SAW 2024 honours the country’s rich artistic heritage while shedding light on engaging new artistic connections. Multimodal presentations will be available to the public in the near future, with the goal of contributing to discussions on modern life and identity.
Also, for the first time, the fair will include 38 galleries from the area and beyond, each presenting a unique selection of artworks and curated presentations. Some of the newcomers include the following: Kaikai Kiki Gallery, Asia Art Centre, Taro Nasu, Sabrina Amrani, Poligrafa Obra Grafica, BANGKOK CITYCITY, BASTIAN, Gathering, Nadi Gallery, and Chi-Wen.
