Shanghai’s MAM (Modern Art Museum) plans to change the world of art in 2025 with unparalleled ranges of exhibits and installations. MAM Shanghai is already popular for bridging different cultures together and creating new forms of art in one place, and we expect it to now keep art lovers and cultural professionals engaged. Every installation is precisely placed and intricately crafted, telling the story of the museum’s dedication towards enabling innovation, education, and international understanding. From novel installations to engaging works of art, MAM Shanghai 2025 is set to break new traditions, ignite debates, and provide a first-of-its-kind experience in culture. The imposing industrial style of the museum, paired with a shift in the style of its curation, presents a perfect opportunity for the museum to showcase an unprecedented year in art. By strategically integrating foreign ideas with the local setting, MAM Shanghai 2025 will truly be a landmark for modern art and give the museum a prominent place in the world.
Shay Frisch Peri: Halo (Spring 2025)

Halo by Shay Frisch Peri is set to be showcased as part of MAM Shanghai 2025. The exhibit is expected to reinterpret the spiritual and technological meanings behind halos as a living, electrical force. This innovative exhibit uniquely examines the convergence of circuits, custom-made electric parts, and historical spirituality, as well as industrial materials within a singular theme, history. Through the use of industrial materials, bespoke components, and circuits, Frisch Peri turns passive artifacts into active energy fields. Frisch Peri’s approach results in environments that go beyond the imagination, stimulating the senses in extraordinary ways. Shrines and temples are often depicted or set within an isolated place while civilization is cut out. These structures will be transformed to showcase electricity in the form of light by using it as an emblem. These structures can be turned into large-scale, site-specific installations. Along with stunning visuals, intricate details can be incorporated. Halo is an installation designed by Shai Baitel, MAM’s artistic director. It conveys a powerful message about the boundless potential of shape, artistic expression, and power. The overarching theme of Halo emphasizes deep audience engagement and urges MAM Shanghai 2025 to surpass set limits of creative stimulation.

Francesco Vezzoli’s Crying Divas will celebrate the stars of classical European and American cinema within the context of the history of film art, which spans for 25 years and has a spring 2025 opening date. Vezzoli created films, posters, and embroidery that evoke multiple levels of fame, memory, and art. Each work embodies the feeling of Hollywood’s golden era, which is coupled with Vezzoli’s personal cinematic history and the imagery that films created. Vezzoli incorporates and critiques significant film movements such as Italian Neorealism, French New Wave, and Spanish Surrealism, thereby encouraging a fresh perspective on 20th-century cinema. The exhibit is meticulously organized by Nancy Spector, turning MAM Shanghai 2025 into a deeply historical, emotional and artistic space with the help of Crying Divas.
Kenny Scharf: Emotional (Summer 2025)

Gallery Paris, 2018, Courtesy of the Artist
During the summer of MAM Shanghai 2025, Scharf’s vibrant and imaginative emotionality will be on display. Emotional is an exhibition that tries to connect ancient pictorial customs with modern-day life. Scharf’s trademark cartoon-style faces, created as a reinterpretation of Paul Ekman’s emotional classification system, simplify human emotions into understandable expressions that anyone can relate to. Emotional also showcases the Kenny Scharf Beach Club, which is an exaggerated interpretation of life on Venice Beach, California. People tend to overlook Kenny’s art as kiddish. However, he repaints reality and captures the imagination, which is the essence of art. Visitors are greeted with fantasy creations such as modified lifegaurding towers, sand-coated floors, antiquated surfboards, inflatable toys, and beach games—all decorated with Scharf’s brilliant art. Emotional exemplifies the relationship between people in a world that is rapidly absorbed by digital devices. This playful and engaging piece curated by Artistic Director Shai Baitel demonstrates MAM Shaghai’s idea of innovation and encouraging everyone to experience art.
Francesco Clemente: Nomad Soul (Fall 2025)

Studio
MAM Shanghai will unveil a stunning contemporary exhibition featuring sixteen illuminated tents as Nomad Soul returns to the museum in the fall. Clemente’s extensive immersive exhibition entitled Ocean of Stories will be displayed alongside jaw-dropping wall paintings. He attempts to guide her on a metaphorical journey integrating the Buddhist and Upanishadic philosophies focusing on life, transformation, and cultural diversity. Curtis Joseph captured the temple caves of Dun Huang and Ajanta Ellora, reflecting the essence of his work, portraying imagination, memory, and movement. Nomad Soul, curated by Bartolomeo Pietromarchi, explores the constant and boundless spread of cultures, embracing the rich experiences all around the world. This exhibition builds upon MAM Shanghai’s endeavors to foster global dialogues and further enhances its reputation as a leader in cultural integration.
A Year of Multidisciplinary Engagement
MAM Shanghai 2025 is about more than just exhibitions; it is an art celebration with a multidisciplinary and immersive approach. The program includes workshops, lectures, and other activities intended to mobilize and engage the public around the topic of art and culture. The museum’s large industrial building can serve as a backdrop for a wide range of installations, further enhancing the relationship between the audience and the art. MAM Shanghai 2025 will seek to redefine the presentation and experience of modern art by incorporating elements of education, technology, and creativity.
The vision behind MAM Shanghai 2025
The museum’s global reputation has been fostered under Shai Baitel’s vision, which is at the forefront of MAM Shanghai’s transformation as an artistic director. Abramović: Transforming Energy (2024) and Bob Dylan: Retrospectrum, Baitel is well known to the public for his revolutionary curating for these exhibitions. It is this unique feat of joining emotions with the public that artistically captures the attention of the viewers that makes Baitel stand out from the crowd of curators, Shai Baitel. Such masterpieces promise that that that that that that that that that MAM Shanghai 2025 will be a defining year for the museum. Shai Baitel’s strong balance of creativity, diversity, and accessibility, as well as the museum’s mission to dominate the international scene, make MAM Shanghai the future leader of art.
The 2025 plan at MAM aims to utilize the international appeal of Shanghai to transform the place into phenomenal art installations while ensuring that the traditions of the East and West coexist, making the museum a relay of culture. The MAM capsule is also strategically positioned to feature outdoor sculpture rooms, international art galleries, as well as MAM halls and rooms for multi-purpose use. Everything is built to transform the galleries into studios, forgive the pun, and provide the public with a new level of insight and opportunity to partake in art exhibits like never before. In a world where art is consumed rather than appreciated, where MAM serves as the perfect beacon for contemporary art, it becomes the perfect opportunity for the West to see what the East truly is.
More than just offering a groundbreaking expo, MAM Shanghai 2025 serves as a witness to the ideological shift in the core purpose of every renowned art museum. By fusing art and education alongside hosting public excursions, MAM Shanghai is perhaps the first modern art institution in the world to use perception measurement and manipulation. It sets a new expo standard for all international museums and places hope to go beyond just’serving’ the public—forever changing the cultural perception of China. This transcendence will further enhance Shanghai’s already marketable reputation, with MAM serving as the focal point and the crowning achievement. All exhibits are set up in a way that aims to triumph conversations while judgments believe them set challengingly to remain in the minds of viewers.
The MAM Shanghai 2025 is undoubtedly the centerpiece of cultural development in China, which fascinates the international art world. In this year’s collection, I’m guessing that Shay Frisch Peri’s hair-raising Halo and Francesco Clemente’s inward Nomad Soul will surely evoke and dazzle. MAM Shanghai 2025 makes another stroke, being itself the phenomenon of modern art, and gets ready to mark another one by casting further light on creativity, diversity and engagement.
For the world to hear art in a new way, aside from the tramplings of other forms, it’s just MAM Shanghai 2025. There’s much more to tell, so be in the zone of anticipation and visit the official website of the Modern Art Museum (MAM) Shanghai for updates.
