Lausanne’s Very Own Photo Elysée, also known as the Cantonal Museum for Photography, is a one-of-a-kind museum that holds a ton of memories for its viewers. The year 2025 seems rather intriguing for them, and the team believes that they will be able to adapt to the changing times and wants the new age to witness the progression in the art of photography. Staying true to their reputation, it is safe to say that the museum won’t be boring, as it has a lot of innovative projects lined up since it’s centered around Zoomers and loves diversity.

New Age Photo Elysée of 2025 Youth-centered museum

2025 seems to be the year where photos would be central to the younger generation. For Photo Elysée, this year and its activities seem to be in line for promoting Generation Z, who actively take on younger roles in the society. This would only be the most ideal way to progress, given that this generation’s views are completely in contrast with older generations, like the baby boomers, who would relate more to the 40+ years of legacy the museum offers.  Every year has been consistently pressured by changing times and genuinely evolving.  This year’s program seems to build on that legacy by providing exhibitions that display nonconformity and aim to balance the entire ecosystem.

Opening in March 2025, this exhibition showcases the groundbreaking work of Tyler Mitchell, a leading voice in modern American photography. Photography and sports have shared a symbiotic relationship since the 19th century. Sport in Focus, debuting in March 2025, uncovers the fascinating intersection of sports and photography, featuring a collaborative effort between Photo Elysée and the Olympic Museum. The exhibition revisits iconic sporting moments while revealing untold stories behind the lens.

3. Vaud’s Photographic Investigation

In June 2025, Photo Elysée will present the results of a unique project commissioned to document the intangible cultural heritage of the Vaud region. Six talented photographers were chosen to capture the essence of these traditions, resulting in an exhibition that bridges history and contemporary creativity.

4. Nuit des Images: A Festive Spectacle

Since its inception in 1986, the Nuit des Images has been a cornerstone event for Photo Elysée. Returning in June 2025, this multimedia extravaganza will transform the museum’s facade into a canvas for over 65 international artists. Free exhibitions, engaging activities, and live DJ sets will make this night a memorable celebration of visual art.

5. reGeneration5: The Voice of Generation Z

Launched in 2005, the reGeneration series celebrates emerging talent. Its fifth edition, scheduled for September 2025, focuses on themes central to Generation Z, such as intersectionality, gender fluidity, and the concept of home. The exhibition is a global platform for young photographers to share their unique perspectives.

What makes Photo Elysée different in 2025?

Outreach and Strategic Collaborations

Photo Elysée’s association with institutions like the C/O Berlin Foundation, as well as the Institut pour la Photographie de Lille, stresses its character as a world culture center. With innovative tools and storytelling, exhibitions such as L is for Look engage young viewers in the world of photography and images, which enhances the appreciation of visual arts.

Where Riches of Photography Live

The fact that the museum is situated in Plateforme 10, a cultural network of locations in the city of Lausanne, is also a bonus point. The starting point for its development was the opening in 2022 of this interdisciplinary space that joins fine arts, design, and photography. Thus, with the best-distributed infrastructure and geographical position close to the Lausanne main train station, the Plateforme 10 is an example of what Phot Elysée has planned.

Diversity and inclusion.

Photo Elysée’s 2025 programmatic activities aim at targeting different voices and perspectives on the given subject. It seeks to represent Gen Z photographers as an example of why diversity in art is critical. Gender topics, diaspora issues, and others are simple but effective illustrations of why photographers at the museum have such compelling stories to tell.

The Future of Photo Elysée: Out of Forward Perspective

The research that Photo Elysée has done reinforces its place as an important institution for both artists and art lovers as history rolls on. The 2025 proposal further illustrates how photography possesses the power to transcend cultural and generational divides. From captivating displays to educational visits, Photo Elysée is a place where a lot more happens than just looking through a camera lens.

On The Way To Explore Photo Elysée

Backed by a rich culture, Photo Elysée is strategically located in Lausanne. Be it photography ‘niche’ or people visiting the museum for the first time and many not being interested in photography, the exhibition is likely to be useful to them as it will educate them. The year 2025, with events such as Nuit des Images and Sport in Focus, is a good year to appreciate the imagination behind photographs.

As the great influence of Photo Elysée on the visual narration of history proceeds, it indeed became one of the best places for the lovers of photography and culture to visit.
